Vector vs bitmap

The short answerVector artwork scales to any size and stays sharp; bitmap artwork is made of pixels and blurs if enlarged too far.

The details

Think of vector artwork like a rubber band: stretch it bigger or smaller and it stays sharp. Use it for logos and text. Bitmap artwork is more like a mosaic: it looks great at the right size, but enlarge it too much and you see the individual pieces. Use high-resolution bitmaps for photographs and detailed artwork.
