How to use our templates
The short answerWhen you print with MCRL, we send you a custom cover dieline template with your project’s exact specifications. It shows where to place your layout, artwork and text so your cover prints without margin issues.
The details
What is a dieline template?
A dieline is a guide that helps you design your book so everything fits just right. It shows where to place your layout, artwork and text to match the final printed version, with all the essential markings for your cover and any additional features like a dust jacket, interactive elements, unique decorating or packaging. Whether you're making a board book, a planner, a novel or a graphic novel, using a dieline ensures your cover is printed without margin issues.
How to request your dieline
- Already have a quote? Just reply to your quote email to request your dieline.
- Need a quote? Request a print quote, or fill out the form on our Requesting a cover dieline page and we'll be in touch to discuss your project's dieline specifications.
Reading your template
- Green area: make sure your text and artwork are within the green area.
- Pink area: this wraps around the board, so it should have the same design as the green area or be a continuation of the artwork.
- Bleed area: your artwork should go past the trim line into the bleed, to avoid white edges.
Designing your cover
MCRL doesn't design covers: your designer works from the dieline. If you need a hand, see our trusted print design pros. Before you submit, check File checklist: the top 3.
