Dust jacket
An added touch for hardcover books. Dust jackets add to the perceived value of your book, and bookstores love them. They are typically printed on one side only, with lamination on the printed side.
Belly bands
Two types: a complete wrap-around that has to be removed before the book can be opened, or a tuck-in style that tucks into the front and back cover like a dust jacket. Add your branding or message to enhance the style and marketing of your project.
Flaps and foldouts
Great for presenting methodologies or information.
Inside pockets
We can generally do any type of inside pocket. Send us a picture of the style you like and we can print it.
Tabs
A great way to organize your content. Tabs can be cut in different shapes and protected with gloss lamination (on the tabs only). Tab sheets work best with spiral binding, and they are easy and inexpensive to add. Index tabs, such as the thumb-index tabs on Bibles, are used with Smyth-sewn books.
- Most common sizes are 9pt, 10pt and 12pt paper
- Full colour, PMS (Pantone) colour or black printed
- A pocket can be included in the tab sheet
Ribbon and elastic
Ribbon can be satin, grosgrain or novelty, in an array of colours to match your brand palette, and you can even print on grosgrain ribbon. MCRL uses YAMA ribbon, which is safety certified and tested for hazardous materials. Recycled ribbon made from rPET is also available (minimum order of 3,000 books or planners).
Elastic closures are a popular embellishment and an easy way to keep loose notes secure. They come in different widths and colours.
Metal corners
Add elegance and durability to your journal or planner, in various styles and colours, shiny or matte.

Common questions
Which bindings can have tabs or snap-ins?
Tab sheets can only be included with spiral and Wire-O bound books, and they are an inexpensive add-on. Snap-ins also need spiral or Wire-O binding. Index tabs can be added to Smyth-sewn books, planners and journals.
Can I print on ribbon and match it to my brand colours?
Yes, we can print on grosgrain ribbon with your branding or a short message. Ribbon colour is specified as part of your build and is commonly matched to the cover colour, foil or binding.
Do metal corners work on softcover books?
No. Metal corners are designed to protect the corners of hardcover books, journals and planners.
