6 Journal and Planner Cover Materials

Six cover materials, split into three established favourites and three newer eco options. All of the laminated, vegan leather and linen notebooks MCRL prints are mounted onto recycled Eska board, so the eco substrate is constant regardless of which surface material you choose.

Matte and gloss laminated Eska board covers are the versatile default. They accept full-cover artwork edge to edge and accommodate essentially every decorating technique, which makes them the right answer whenever the cover design is itself the selling point. Vegan leather is the most popular of the three: available in a wide colour range, and the material where emboss, deboss and heat burnish imprinting look best. Linen is the sophisticated option - it can be spliced with cork lamination and other materials, and glitter foil stamping and debossing look exceptional on it.

The three eco alternatives come with a trade-off stated plainly. rPET covers are made from recycled plastic water bottles and work well for corporate notebooks and promotional products. Cork is durable and sustainably sourced, but decorating options are limited. Bamboo is tree-free, stylish and durable, with some decorating limitations of its own - though bamboo paper is a strong eco choice for any notebook interior. The honest summary: these three are not right for every design, but they are excellent for promo products and single-imprint-location designs where the material itself is the message.
