Offset Printing Turnaround Times
How long does it take to receive your order? Typically, orders will be delivered within 8-12 weeks from approval of your physical proof.
This video explains MCRL’s process and how long your order spends in each stage. A great tool to help you backward schedule from pre-press, proofing, production and shipping if you have an important deadline.
How to backward schedule an offset print run
Key takeaways
- Schedule backwards from your in-hand date, not forwards from today.
- Pre-press ~1 week with print-ready files; physical bound proofing ~2 weeks.
- Production: ~2 weeks saddle stitch/perfect bound, ~3 weeks spiral, Wire-O and board books, 3-4 weeks packaging.
- Shipping: 6-8 weeks by sea, 1-2 weeks by air; split shipments available for extra cost.

“How long will it take to print my product?” is the question MCRL’s team fields most often, and this video answers it by teaching you to schedule backwards from your deadline rather than forwards from today. Start with the date you need stock in hand, then subtract each stage. It gives you a realistic timeline and, importantly, shows you where to build in breathing room.
There are four stages. Pre-press begins when print-ready files and the deposit are received, and takes about a week if your files are ready to go. Proofing - a physical bound proof you review for formatting and content - typically takes around two weeks, depending on how quickly you approve it. Production time then depends on what you’re making: saddle-stitched and perfect-bound books and journals run roughly two weeks, spiral planners, Wire-O and board books roughly three, and packaging three to four. Specialty add-ons can add more.
Shipping is the stage most people underestimate. By sea, expect roughly six to eight weeks; by air, one to two. Split shipments are available if you need some stock early - a portion by air, the balance by sea, with additional fees. Quotes include duties, taxes and delivery to your door. Add those four stages together and you’ll see why starting the conversation early is never wasted effort.
